Our last Immersed in the Wild trip took us up to Mt. Shasta for the Winnemem Wintus (https://facebook/winnememwintu) Peoples Gathering . Native and non-native people from all over-- New Zealands Maori, Wintu, Pomo, Azteca, Hawaiian, Navajo, WildPlaces from the southern Sierra, and others joined in this most north region of the Sierra Nevada to be refreshed by nurturing people who are taking action in sustainable ways--especially in actions taken towards river and fish health--sounds like our Rio Limpio Program, eh? The heart of the ceremony IS Mt. Shasta. They invite everyone to be reverent towards Mother Earth. The Wintu and all in attendance know the crucial importance of their rivers and environment, they share that with us, to bring knowledge back home. We need to re-analyze how water is being used for ourselves. It is no longer time to inspire people, it is time to take action, says Caleen Sisk, Tribal Leader of the Wintu. Thanks Chico, Zuri, Mehmet, and Liz of WildPlaces and Porterville Danza Azteca troop for representing our region in this most important annual event
