Our mid-week Tune at the Box this week comes from an Alabama soul singer. In early February of 1966, Percy Sledge was given a Calvin Lewis, Andrew Wright composition ... When A Man Loves A Woman, was the songs title. On February 17th, 1966 Percy Sledge went into the Norala Sound Studio in Sheffield, Alabama to record the song. When A Man Loves A Woman was released April 16th, 1966. May 28th to June 11th, 1966, the song was the number one single in the country. It was certified Gold by the RIAA. Michael Bolton covered the tune in 1991, again reaching number one. The Percy Sledge version of When A Man Loves A Woman is listed at #54 on Rolling Stone Magazines 500 Greatest Songs Of All Time.
