Our next lunchtime recital takes place next Wednesday! We have two fabulous artistes performing a wonderful concert in song and piano - the programme includes Henry Purcell (1659-1695) Fairest Isle, Benjamin Britten (1913-1976) Let the florid music praise! and Gabriel Fauré (1845-1924) Aurore . Tickets available on the door also https://youtube/watch?v=ER6Kms4SlMo The Artists Ruth Gallagher graduated with a first class honours degree from Waterford Institute of Technology (WIT) in 2011 and completed a research masters degree in 2013 under the professional instruction of Dublin born mezzo-soprano, Bridget Knowles. Recent performances include soloist in the Waterford Christchurch Cathedral Choirs performance of Haydns Seven Last Words of Christ, and in Vivaldis Gloria and Magnificat with St. Canices Choir Kilkenny and the WIT Chamber Choir. During her post-graduate studies, she was guest soloist with the Male Voice Choir in Christ Church Cathedral and The Friary; she also performed a selection of songs for Waterford New Music Week and the Waterford Festival of Learning in 2012 and 2013 and was soloist in Fauré’s Requiem with the WIT Chamber Choir and Orchestra in The Chapel, WIT. Ruth has given a number of solo recitals in Christchurch Cathedral, Waterford, the Chapel, WIT and Castalia Hall, Kilkenny. She recently sang the lead female role in workshops of Eric Sweeney’s new opera The Invader. A native of Waterford, Emma Scanlon has been involved in the music scene of her locality and further afield for many years. As a pianist, violist and violinist she has performed as a soloist, accompanist, orchestral and ensemble member. Highlights include the premiere of a solo contemporary work as part of Waterford New Music Week 2010, performance of the Mozart Piano Quartet in G minor in the Irish World Academy of Music and Dance, and lunchtime concerts in St. Mary’s Cathedral Limerick and Christchurch Cathedral, Waterford with cellist Livia Nagy (Hungary) featuring works by Bach, Beethoven and Bartok. She has appeared with string ensemble Academos and with members of the Irish Chamber Orchestra for the public address of the Dalai Lama in spring 2011. She formed part of a string quartet accompanying Jack L on the Late Late Show in autumn 2012 and made her debut in the National Concert Hall in 2013 alongside Waterford Male Voice Choir. Emma received her music degree from W.I.T studying piano under Malcolm Proud and majoring in performance. She completed an MA in Classical Performance in UL where she was awarded First Class Honours under the tuition of Ferenc Szucs, Bruno Giuranna, Joachim Roewer, Michael Wolf, Ervin Nagy and Moira Gray. Emma was awarded the John and Pat Hume Scholarship in 2013 and more recently was the recipient of the prestigious Government of Ireland Postgraduate Scholarship awarded by the Irish Research Council. Emma is currently pursuing a PhD in NUI Maynooth under the supervision of Dr Alison Hood, specialising in early 20th century piano repertoire. See you there!
