Our noon reading for today, July 2, is from the Academy Catalogue, 1923: The government is mild but firm. Only such rules are enforced as are regarded necessary for successful work or the general good of the school and for the discipline, better mental, moral and physical development of the individual student. The strict observance of these rules is, therefore, enjoined upon all students, and they are encouraged to do their duty from a sense of honor and justice, rather than from fear of reproof. Such students only are desired as are willing to make use of the educational opportunities offered; hence no student will be retained whose spirit is opposed to the methods of the institution or whose influence is found to be in any way prejudicial to the well-being of the school. Students are expected to deport themselves in a refined and ladylike manner, to sustain a courteous bearing toward one another, and to yield at all times and under all circumstances, implicit and respectful obedience to the faculty. The necessity of order, punctuality and self-restraint in the formative years is recognized by all parents and educators. The principles imbued then become habits of inestimable value in later life. The health and comfort of the students receive constant and special attention. All necessaries are provided for their particular needs. When well, their health is carefully guarded; when sick, the immediate attendance of skillful physicians and competent nurses is provided. An abundance of good, wholesome food is supplied from the gardens, orchards, dairy and farm lands of the institution and the students invariably gain in health and vigor while in residence.
