Our own Geoffrey L. Garfield previewed the movie last night. I appreciate his take as a second generation civil rights leader. By that I mean, he wasnt a power broker back then, but he was a young person who witnessed things I didnt see, and I always appreciate his knowledge, skills and training. I learned last night that a Teach For America Executive Director in Missouri is also the one hired by Governor Nixon to lead on the police brutality issue. Interesting. And this is why several voices in Ferguson tell me nearly daily how the liberals in America are selling them out and profiting off them or others tell me how they struggle to get people out of jail who did nothing, but have $200,000 bail anyway no one can pay. And Teach For America is annointed to represent the rest of us? The Thurgood Marshall who? union busting untrained surrogates of privatization and re-segregation? Wow. I hope the movie will train young minds what activism really is, how to work together and serve one goal and yet many goals as a team and do their research. Sad that we are further behind than we knew. But blessed that our eyes are opening and we are having this dialogue. No better time for a revisit to our past. I hope you will see the movie and share Geoffreys review on your pages.
