Our pastor spoke last Sunday on how people have lost their ability to communicate. People are so busy and distracted by work and the constant new technology that many dont know how to hold on a real conversation. Go out to a restaurant, look around at the large numbers of people who are scrolling and texting away on their phones. Notice that they are not speaking to the person sitting across the table from them. Pat brought up the old fashion meal time. There once was a time that families sat around the table and talked. Parents asked their children how their day went and gave them encouragement and guidance on how to handle lifes confusing twists and turns. Fathers even read from the Bible and the family shared quality time together. No TVs, no cell phones, just family laughing and bonding. I was blessed to have the bonding and quality time of loving parents and great sisters. When I started a family of my own, I was determined to have that around the table experience in my home. We turn off the TV, put away the phones an sit around the table and talk. It thrills me that even my kids friends seem to enjoy the simplicity of our style. Allen and I have given lots of advice, much of it, Im sure at the time wasnt wanted but it didnt deter our kids and their friends from hanging around. My table is worn out. The finish is gone in places and there is glue and glitter from years gone by that nothing short of a sand blaster is gonna get off. As I look at it, I realize that in all the things I have fallen short in, I feel Ive done something right. I hope that all the memories I see in these scars on the table have touched the lives of all that have sat around it. I know that I have been blessed.
