Our second best overlooked spot for book lovers in NYC is: The Gutenberg Bible at NYPL The New York Public Library Upon moving to the city, one of my first stops was to visit the New York Public Library to see the Gutenberg Bible. After all, the world of literature would not be as widespread as it is today were it not for the invention of the Gutenberg Press. Printed on paper rather than vellum, this copy of the Gutenberg Bible arrived in New York City in 1847. It was such a rare sight to behold that Customs Officers were told to take off their hats upon viewing it. Today it resides in the Gottesman Exhibition Hall where all are welcome to view one of literary history’s greatest accomplishments. The New York Public Library, 5th Ave at 42nd St, New York, NY 10018, (917) 275-6975 (nypl.org). Open 10:00AM-6:00PM Monday-Friday and 1:00PM-5:00PM on Sunday. The library will close at 5:00PM on December 24 and December 31. It is closed on December 25.
