Our shelter had a rush of Guinea Pigs lately. Thank you to the rescues and adopters that came forth to rescue and rehome them. We sincerely appreciate all of your support! Two of those guinea pigs will be hanging around the shelter for a while longer. Wed like to introduce everyone to, Elizabeth and Rose, better known as Lizzy and Rosie. These two sisters were adopted by two shelter employees and they are being groomed to be new Ambassador animals for our Humane Education Program. Our Humane Education presenters go into classrooms all throughout the county to educate our younger citizens on how to be responsible pet owners. Having Ambassador animals go to programs, is a great hands on way of teaching children how to be gentle and respectful towards animals. Lizzy and Rosie will be hanging out at the shelter in the Humane Education office so they can become more social, used to being handled and learn to meet and greet new people. On the weekends they will be traveling home with their adoptive human moms, so they can get used to other animals, traveling in cars and visiting different places. We have attached a flyer with a list of different classroom programs we offer through our humane education department here at Animal Services. We also have many different Ambassador animals that can accompany our presenters to those programs. We have dogs, (large and small), a cat, rabbits, a chicken, a couple of snakes, a tarantula and now our new guinea pig sisters. If you would like more information on how to schedule a Humane Education presentation please feel free to call 925-335-8340 or Email: [email protected] In our Humane Education presentations, we stress the importance of Respect, Compassion and Kindness towards all living creatures and their habitats. Our belief is, that just as helping children develop good character is an integral part of their education, treating animals responsibly and humanely is an essential part of good character. Thank you for your time and support! Meep! Meep! (thats thank you in guinea pig talk)
