Our team was assigned Initial Attack (IA) today on anything that popped up from Mazama down to Carlton to give relief to the local F.D.(Okanogan FD#6) here in the Methow. We chased a few reports of smoke throughout the day and heavily patrolled the Twin Lakes area. Towards 18:00hrs a 911 caller reported a grass/brush fire between Twisp & Carlton. The Snohomish County Strike Team responded in place of the local FD. We arrived and had roughly a 1-2 acre fire in grass/chaparral/sage brush. Some fires skirting the valley really blew up this evening revealing what looked to be Armageddon at times. Lt. Stocker took the entire team out to pizza tonight after our good little firefight down the highway which the guys appreciated greatly. I had an incident with an 8 wood splinter when I sat down to eat, but the story of 3 brothers assisting me in the bathroom to make sure it wasnt in my pants still, and having some other patron walk in on us.....was priceless!
