Our thanks to Taryn, Simon and the children for the lastest Tripadvisor review. Were so glad to know you are heading to Villa Kalisha again this June. See you then!! tripadvisor.ph/Hotel_Review-g297695-d1647568-Reviews-Villa_Kalisha-Gianyar_Bali.html “A True Tropical Paradise. Cant wait to return!” 5 of 5 stars Reviewed 6 days ago Villa Kalisha was the 2nd stop in our 2 week Bali holiday, and the 8 nights we spent in this tropical paradise were simply divine! I truly think that the beauty of this villa and its location cannot be done justice in photos and words; it really does need to be seen to be believed! When our driver pulled up to the little roadside shed and we saw Nyos, Made, and Wayan sitting waiting on the steps leading up to the rice paddies I was instantly intrigued. We were given a warm welcome, and then our bags were lifted onto their heads and up the steps we followed, walking along a path amongst the rice paddies, seemingly heading nowhere, but as we stepped down at the end of the field and continued along the path to the double wooden doors, what awaited us beyond was nothing short of breathtaking! All I could say was WOW! The most beautiful tropical paradise, seemingly suspended in mid air above the jungle with more rice paddies way below – just simply amazing! Upon our arrival and once we were settled and brought ice cold glasses of freshly prepared fruit juice, we sat around and had a chat with our villa manager Nyos who said they like to treat their guests as part of their family, in a nice relaxed atmosphere, which was just perfect as far as we were concerned, and indeed part of what made our time at Villa Kalisha so wonderful and my favourite part of our holiday. The staff truly “make” this villa! Nyos took us walking through a local village and rice paddies, teaching us so much about the local culture and way of life, and gave us a real insight into local life, which we loved, (we definitely like a more “off the beaten track” type of holiday and stay away from heavy tourist populated areas). He and his wife Made were just beautiful to our girls, both of whom grew a great fondness for them over our stay, Nyos taking them for walks around the villa’s grounds and making shadow puppets for them, and Made happily taking care of them for my husband and I to go out exploring the local area one afternoon, and in fact one evening I found her sitting on the floor in the kitchen painting their toe nails :) An amazing experience especially for our nearly 5yr old daughter was to have Nyos and Made’s daughter Kadek come and visit at the villa in the afternoons after school. Within 10 minutes of meeting they were playing together, chatting, swimming, drawing etc, and Kadek even taught my daughter how to count in Indonesian. Our daughters looked forward to her visits, asking every morning if they would get to see her today. We ate in every night, and most lunches too. Made and Wayan made lovely meals, and were happy to prepare things like cheese sandwiches for the kids’ lunch. Made even gave my husband a cooking lesson one night so he could learn how to make the spring rolls he became addicted too whilst there! Oh and you can’t go past Made’s delicious fresh banana or mango smoothies – they became a daily requirement! The villa itself I’d say is very “natural and rustic” it certainly didn’t have the immaculate polish that we had come from at Villa Leana, but it was also in a much different landscape and environment so I understand that would be harder to accomplish. You are in the jungle, so there are a plethora of creatures to behold; bugs, beetles, lizards, geckos, butterflies and frogs (to name but a few), yet none that caused us any issues. Nightime was especially exciting for the kids dining out on the patio with anywhere from 1-5 geckos appearing on the walls above us, as well as fireflies and bats flying overhead. The beds were fitted with Mosquito nets, but we actually didn’t have any issues with mosquitos at all in the time we were there, either in bed or whilst sitting outside at night time. Night times were quite warm in bed with no air-con, and although there are ceiling fans fitted, they aren’t overly effective through the bed netting. Both of the open air bathrooms are lovely, and our girls loved the fish swimming around in the pond behind the bathtub downstairs. Also, if you are traveling with kids I’d suggest taking a baby monitor (something we had not thought of) as the bedrooms are one on top floor and one on bottom. We booked and had massages by the poolside nearly daily, and can Highly recommend the Bali Eco Cycling tour – a full day touring the beautiful countryside, extremely cheap for all that was included (breakfast over looking volcano before starting off, lunch, bikes (and child seats), guides, water, fresh fruit, and plenty of informative stops along the way). I truly could keep going on and on about Villa Kalisha, but instead I will just end it with this – I do not “hope” to get back there again one day, I KNOW I will definitely be back there before too long! (This was our first trip to Bali, traveling with our 4.5yr old and 2yr old daughters. We spent 2 totally amazing weeks split between 3 of Tom & Rene’s Villa’s, and came away with a deep-seated love of Bali and it’s people; and the fairly certain knowledge that in future no matter which of Tom and Rene’s villa’s we stay at (we have definite plans to try others) that the standard and quality of the Villa’s and their Staff will be the same incredibly high standard as we experienced at Villa Leana, Villa Kalisha & Villa Talia Vashti.) Stayed November 2013, traveled with family
