Our trip to Johannesburg by train...... 1. Overall an excellent experience - Ill give PRASA 7.5 out of 10. 2. Train staff professional in the execution of their tasks 3. Infrastructure (coaches, rails etc.) reasonable 4. Food well prepared and enjoyable (expensive though) 5. Security excellent and visible policing on the train during the trip. Ive heard a lot of negative things about the state of our train service, but I have to say that we as a family enjoyed our trip and YES, well do it again. Some criticism though...... 1. Coaches dirty on the outside (both up and down trips) 2. Many stations along the route half demolished and in a state of decay 3. rail infrastructure in certain areas (e.g. immediately south of JHB., and certain parts of Free State & North Eastern Cape) in need of attention. 4. approach to JHB station & other stations on the Reef in urgent need of a clean-up to remove household refuse strewn alongside the tracks. 5. timekeeping an issue - 1,5 hours late in both directions. Overall... an enjoyable and relaxing experience !!
