Outstanding young Guyanese # Educator ROGER Grannys boy is the OPPOSITE OF Small We quite often dream dreams of what we want to be then the world throws rocks at us to stumble into what we were really ordained for. One such person is Guyanese Caribbean Historian and teacher Roger Small. You may know his little sister Olympian Small for her creations which have won national accolades but BIG BROTHER Roger is holding his own as an exceptional educator. Olympian was always into fashion but Roger was sure that he wanted to be a lawyer. That however was not the become a reality as he is one of the more satisfied educators in the field. Roger J. Small Academic resume speaks for itself. Out of his 25 years in the profession he is enjoying the latter eight years in the Turks and Caicos. But it wasnt always easy for this 42 year old. His start was of humble beginnings at Amelias Ward Linden. Growing up with grandmother at the end of High School he had to shelve his legal aspirations to make ends meet. Roger was forced to work and teaching was the first option that he could have grab. Now he says Teaching was never really a challenge and 25 years later I love what I do. As his resume continues to grow positively one day he ultimately will become all that he can be and more but of course there were stumbling blocks along the way. He calls them motivation. He recently returned to Guyana and buried a proud grandmother. He had many financial setbacks while at Teachers Training College and University but there was always an angel. Then of course there were the naysayers. In 1999 when I was promoted to Head Of Department at Saints Stanislaus College, being the youngest senior teacher, a few of the older folks felt I was too young for the job and gave me a royal fight but I was able to excel on the job and shut them up and out. At present he is doing his MBA majoring in Human Resources Management at California Coast University. Many on the local shores can attest to his simplicity and humanitarian exploits to make life better for others in their hour of need. A well presented, self motivated and confident Graduate Teacher who has extensive knowledge of how to successfully assess the learning needs of students and then develop and implement suitable learning strategies for them. Possessing excellent counselling, listening and general communication skills, along with the ability to communicate with students, fellow staff members and administration. Having exceptional multi-tasking and organisational skills, all of which are imperative when working closely as a team or other education professionals. If I had to continue I would be at this all day so below you can find a summary of the academically inclined person I call friend, brother and confidante...Master Roger Small: ACADEMIC QUALIFICATIONS University of Leicester - 2012 Postgraduate Certification in Business Administration The Association of Chartered Certified Accountants - 2001 Certified Accounting Technician Level A University of Guyana – 1998 Bachelor of Arts Degree – History (major), Caribbean Studies and Religion (minor) Cyril Potter College of Education – 1993 Trained Teachers’ Certificate – History and Social Studies Caribbean Examination Council – 1989 English, Mathematics, Principles of Accounts, Principles of Business and Caribbean History Work Experience 1989 – 1995 Teacher of History, Accounting and Business Studies at Mackenzie High School 1995 – 1999 Teacher of History, Accounting and Social Studies at St Roses High School 1995 – 1998 Head of Department (Ag), (Social Studies) at St Roses High School 1999 – 2007 Teacher of Accounting, Business Studies and History at St Stanislaus College 1999 – 2007 Head of Department, Business Education at St Stanislaus College 2000 – 2006 Assistant Examiner (marker) of Accounting for Caribbean Examination Council 2002 – 2004 Lecturer of Caribbean Studies at Critchlow Labour College 2007 – Pres.
