Over 2 years ago HAAR received a call about 3 dogs living outside - TopicsExpress

Over 2 years ago HAAR received a call about 3 dogs living outside in East NY. Agencies were called and the dogs were left in the freezing cold with barely any food. One dog in particular, Zeus, a Mastiff mix was emaciated beyond belief. When HAAR responded, we persuaded the owner of these dogs to surrender Zeus to us,which they did. At a later time we also removed the other 2, saving them from a hellish existence in a crack house. This is what we received today from Zeus owner, who also owns Boggie another severely abused dog adopted from HAAR. Hi Lori, It is with profound sadness that I let you know about the passing of Zeus. I do not how to describe my sorrow. Zeus was a special dog. My dog walkers and I for the past 2 years would drive our three dogs (Boggie/Zeus/Meilee) to different parks each day. Sometimes the Beach. He really had a lot of great moments with us. He got plenty of love, outdoor air, forest trails. We now are falling apart, we dont know what to do now, because he had been such a loving presence in our lives. He had been healthy all this time until last Thursday (no indication of any problems until 4-5 days ago) when he started coughing violently. We took him to the emergency room, where they did all sorts of diagnostics on him. They had to drain blood out from around his lungs periodically. Eventually they found cancerous stuff around his lungs. To not go into unnecessary details, the doctor said that the prognosis just wasnt good. We would be looking at, at best, the scenario of performing surgery that would not cure anything. The cancerous mass wasnt just around his lungs, it was around his chest cavity as well. It was difficult for him to breathe at that point, and a decision had to be made. He could continue to stay at the emergency hospital to have the blood drained out, so that he could breathe a little better, so that the doctors would do more surgeries in order to have a very small chance of doing anything, or we could end his ordeal. So I chose the latter, which was the more humane thing to do. I want to thank you for giving me the opportunity to take care of Zeus. I gave him a good life, and I wish I was able to do more. Boggie is doing just fine. I cannot believe hes almost going to be 8 soon. Still extremely active, loves to run. John RIP Zeus, we will never forget you.
