Over 30,000 hit by floods in 3 districts of upper Assam...... JORHAT: Over 30,000 people of 10 revenue circles in the three upper Assam districts of Dhemaji, Jorhat and Golaghat were affected by floods on Thursday. District administration officials opened 23 relief camps in Dhemaji and Golaghat districts for the flood victims. About 4,000 people took shelter in the relief camps. According to a report of the Assam State Disaster Management Authority, there were three relief camps in Dhemaji district, with 528 flood victims and 20 camps in Golaghat with 3,570 victims on Thursday. The affected revenue circles are Sisiborgaon, Jonai and Dhemaji in Dhemaji district, West Jorhat and Teok in Jorhat district and Golaghat, Bokaghat, Dergaon, Khumtai and Morongi in Golaghat district. "A total of 25 villages with 1,656 people in Dhemaji district, 26 villages with 2,153 people in Jorhat and 101 villages with 26,354 people in Golaghat district have been affected by the floods so far," the report said. Golaghat is the worst hit among the three districts. A district administrative official of Golaghat said, "Due to rising waters of the Dhansiri river, over 100 villages under five revenue circles were affected by floods and the district administration opened 20 relief camps in different places across the district. We are also distributing relief materials among the victims." According to a Central Water Commission report, rivers like the Jiyabharali in Sonitpur and the Dhansiri (South) in Numaligarh and Golaghat are flowing above the danger level.
