Over a gorgeous Labor Day weekend in Colorado, Phish’s second home, the band placed an exceptionally fine exclamation point on the tail end of their 2014 Summer Tour. And while the ink on that mark continues to dry, we can say that this weekend was chock full of fresh improvisation, an effective, de-pressurized fan base prank, stellar intra-musical dialogue, soaring psychedelia and vintage, molasses-like funk. Over the course of the weekend, Phish tore through a terrific chunk of their catalog in linear fashion, capping their Summer off with two stunning performances, one dripping with a late 90s tone and feel, and the last Sunday show of the Summer that saw both crowd and band working seamlessly to imbue the evening with a Summer’s worth of pure, ecstatic Joy.
