Over the last few weeks, as Ive been making my rounds in regards to tomorrows strike protest at the Panorama City Wal-Mart, Ive encountered many people on Facebook and in real life who have never shopped on Black Fridays or avoid stores like Wal-Mart in general. Thats cool and I applaud your consistency but activism also requires acting upon ones convictions; to that point, I ask everyone to proactively participate in bringing the gears of Wal-Mart to a screeching halt and demand living wages for employees. Theres a distinction between refraining from shopping at Wal-Mart and actively engaging with workers and struggling with them to realize a higher level of political sophistication, a sophistication which will force them to act on their new found convictions. Shutting down the Wal-Mart economy is not difficult in theory, since we could potentially shut down its operations with a small number of disciplined and politically-conscious workers and community supporters.
