Over the last four months I have been lucky enough to help Village Volunteers, a local Seattle based non-profit, prepare for a holistic project that fosters womens rights to education and health. It also has an environmental component as well! Empowering Women Period is a project that aims to lessen the stigmatization of menstruation among young women in Kolkata, India (eventually Kenya as well), while promoting womens education. The project will set up a womens run cooperative that produces culturally acceptable menstruation pads. The pads are primarily made from an invasive plant species, water hyacinth, which is marring waterways throughout the southern tropics. The goal is to have a self sustaining autonomous cooperative in under 18 months. Our crowd funding effort has just launched and is off to a great start. We are at nearly 20% of our $50,000 goal. Check it out and help us share this great cause further! https://indiegogo/projects/empowering-women-period--4 There is plenty more to say about the projects details and plenty of ways for all to get involve and support, and I am going to let the video explain the rest... #empoweringwomen #womenseducation #HeForShe
