Over the next few weeks leading up to, during and after the #Vryfees until the end of July, PIKO/PIAD will be publishing stories of women in Mangaung and South Africa, in honour of the project Plastic Histories by Cigdem Aydemir. We will be revealing some of the histories of women of this region and this country; women who have contributed as leaders in the past and continue to contribute as leaders in the present. KAGISHO KOLWANE The first woman we are featuring, one of the four poets working with Cigdem Aydemir on the #PinkPresidents augmented reality component of #PlasticHistories in the city, is Kagisho Kolwane. Kagisho Kolwane is a writer poet, actor, political student and a mother. She performed at Macufe Poetry Festival in 2008 to represent Thaba Nchu local poets. In 2009 she became the deputy chairperson of Charmza Literary club. Born and bred in Thaba Nchu she currently organizes the annual Mokete Poetry festival for local schools at Thaba Nchu . She has contributed a lot to developing platforms for young poets in the small town of Thaba Nchu, initiating poetry clubs in two local schools. In 2003 she performed in a play called Julius Caeser as Calprunia at Mmabana Cultural Centre which toured five schools in Thaba Nchu. She is currently working on her memoir called Young Girl Grow which records her experiences as a single mother of three children and how she has survived and grown.
