Over the past 24 or so hours I have seen this question, Where are the black leaders?. This question bothers me because the problem is so much bigger than that. Who is the leader of white people? Who is the leader of Asians? Who is the leader of Latin people? The world, the planet seems pretty leader-less at the moment. We are so fragmented and broken into so many tiny groups that it is impossible for us to be led, impossible to progress. So instead of being led we allow ourselves to be herded. We dont need leaders (when has that worked well anyway). We are all part of the same fabric, essentially, universally, WE are ALL connected. What we need is our focus back. We need a plan and a direction and commonality in our goals. There are people (always has been and always will be) that profit from our disorganization. Their biggest fear and our greatest need is a collective awakening. Theres not one group that can do this alone. What happened in Ferguson is personally painful to me as a Black man and as a father of sons. I live with and internalize all the unjust things that I have seen in my lifetime. I know that this is big right now, at this moment, but comparatively what happened in Ferguson is a small part of OUR biggest challenge. Its a horrible reminder of whats on our extensive list of things we need to correct.
