Over the weekend I had a lengthy conversation with a friend about social media. I was recently urged to get on Face Book and expand my circle of friends, and learn what they are all doing. What I have discovered is that as often as not I find that most of the comments made are cryptic in nature, abbreviated or in some kind of code. I am not a good speller and my ability with periods, comas and semi-colons is limited at best. I have absolutely no idea what a dangling participle is, makes me want to make sure all my buttons are done. I was under the impression that this Face Book thing would give everyone the opportunity to express themselves, share thoughts and ideas and possible network. I have noticed a trend of getting stuck on a subject and just beating it to death. One group hates our president and calls him names. Well folks, he is your president, duly elected and he will be in office for a few years yet. Get over it. Work like hell to elect whom you want, but while he is in office, support him. At the very least stop calling him names as the world is watching and laughing at us! If the world actually thought we were all behind him, he could maybe really get something done, Congress, are you listening? Do I approve of all his decisions? Hell no but I will not dwell on it in public. If you are going to post a picture, please put a decent caption under it so we all know who, what, where and when, any old time newspaperman will tell you that. Use complete sentences and try to complete a thought with your paragraphs if you use enough words to make one up. I fear that this electronic age is dumbing down our youth. O, and by the way, why not some original thoughts? The fact that you can copy and paste something or download it in some manner says that you can do just that. Now I know your argument will be that this is your way of saying that you agree with it, whatever it is. Here’s a novel idea, tell me your thoughts about it after you have posted it. Do you agree with all of it? Or just parts of it. Well, the little box did ask me if I had something on my mind, guess I did!
