The night temperature is over 35 degree centigrade. You come home - TopicsExpress

The night temperature is over 35 degree centigrade. You come home tired from office. Everything you touch is hot. The water in the fridge is refreshingly cool though. You take a swig from the bottle, then another and then gulp it down. You feel better. The fan is fighting bravely with the sweltering heat. But it just circulates the hot air to every corner of the room, vaporizing perspiration is still a respite. It’s 11:30 in the night, yes late already. You had your dinner in the office itself. You feel like reading something or just browsing the internet but you are fatigued. You go to your bedroom, the familiar fragrance of freshly laundered bed sheet welcomes you. The AC is staring blankly waiting for you to wake it up. You switch it on, it starts with a pleasing humming sound throwing gusts of hot air inside the already hot room. It takes another minute for the compressor to take over. The air is cool now, so cool that it sends a delicious shiver down your spine. You smile a little, get rid of your office formals and change into boxers and cotton tee. You go to the washroom and wash your hands. The water is hot. You have no choice so you wash your face, brush your teeth and take a good look at you. You come back to the room. The room is perfectly cool now and you are absolutely sleepy. You lie down in the bed, think about random things. You check your phone one last time and your eyelids start getting heavy. You soon plunge into a deep slumber. “You are running everywhere, all around a desert. You have consumed the last drop of water. You are sunburnt and dehydrated. Your throat is parched and you feel dizzy. You start shouting. You are helpless” Suddenly you wake up. The power is gone. The AC is silent and so is the fan. You are sweating profusely. You almost feel like throwing up. You walk out, drink some water and go back to the room which is hot as a boiler now. You try sleeping but you can’t. You take your tee out and throw it in desperation. But it doesn’t really help. You are drenched in sweat, even the bed sheet is sodden now. You turn to your side to cool off the sweat on your back. And suddenly a blast of air strikes your bare back. The familiar whirring sound is back and soon the compressor takes over again. It is getting cooler again. Power is back. There is a smile on your lips again. You again think about random things. You check your phone one last time and your eyelids start getting heavy. You soon plunge into a deep slumber. #EveryDayStory - Atul Kumar Mishra
