Over the weekend, the LNP state Council overwhelmingly backed Queensland’s taxi industry regulations that protect customers. Assistant Transport Minister Steve Minnikin was vocal in his support, explaining that while he welcomed competition within the industry, there should be a level playing field. This means that both sides of politics have now sent a clear message to illegal rideshare apps like uber that they will not be allowed to circumvent regulation and bully their way into the market, putting profits ahead of safety. Taxi Council Queensland has never argued against competition. But the regulations – like video cameras, GPS systems, extensive and regular driver criminal checks, vehicle maintenance and a guarantee that taxis will be available in all regions at all times - are in place not to protect the industry but to protect our customers. Any company wanting to run a taxi service in this state must do so in a way that does not compromise service or safety. To add your support to keep these rideshare apps unlawful, please sign the e-petition.
