Over the years, I have said I am glad we had only one child (Derek Sewell) as it allowed us to give him as much attention and resources as we could. But this was never meant to diminish the importance of our first child - Joseph Willie Sewell - who was stillborn on this date, 24 years ago. I have felt so much sympathy for parents who lose their children and know that their pain is somewhat different than mine but still pain nonetheless. However, my pain, then and now, centers around not having had the opportunity to hold a child after 9 months of anticipation and to see his grin the first time he hears my voice. But the sadness will be replaced with joy one day when I have the chance to see him in Heaven so I continue on with life and try to be the best for those still here. I love you both, Sally Jo Mifflin Sewell and Derek Sewell.
