Over two weeks ago one of the leading anti-apartheid campaigners, the weightlifter Chris de Broglio, sadly passed away. He was an incredible individual and his contribution to the campaign was invaluable. He played a huge role in helping persuade the Olympics to expel South African whites only team from competing as a founding member of the South African Non-Racial Olympic Committee. I was fortunate to work with him when I was a young campaigner in the late 1960s and he was extremely supportive of me. He was a good man, with strong and sound principles, he will be dearly missed. theguardian/world/2014/jul/30/chris-de-broglio
