Overcast with Showers Today, Windswept Rain Tonight Storm Developing Off New Jersey Coast SPRINGFIELD, Mass. (WGGB) — A coastal low pressure system is gaining strength just south of Long Island today, and it will bring a windswept rain to the Pioneer Valley tonight. Improvement is expected just in time for the weekend! Today, expect overcast skies with drizzle and few showers through midday. The rain will increase in both coverage and intensity this afternoon and especially overnight, when the worst of the storm will hit. Temperatures today will be stuck in the low 50s. Overnight, the heavy rain will be pushed sideways by a north or northeast wind at 10 to 20mph. The rain will be heavy at times during the morning commute tomorrow, and then diminish to just periods of rain later in the day Thursday. A few showers will linger into Friday, but some brightening is expected by late afternoon. 1-2” of rain is expected by the time all is said and done later on Friday. This weekend looks markedly improved, with a mix of sun and clouds on both days as temperatures rise into the lower 60s. There could be a shower late Saturday as a cold front comes through, but it won’t be a major deal. No reason to cancel any weekend plans. An early look at next week shows moderation – middle 60s – with full sunshine!
