Overheard on the N train this morning, a 20 something hipster girl telling her friend that she just watched the doc on one of Andy Warhols superstars Candy Darling, but for the entire duration of the conversation she kept calling CD, Daisy. She also told her friend that Candy or Daisys heyday was in the 80s and that CD really wanted to be a video vixen. She ended the conversation by telling her friend that transgender people couldnt go outside in the 80s without getting arrested. I had to resist the urge to put my book down and say that I watched this doc too and her name was Candy Darling, her heyday was the late 60s and early 70s and she wanted to be an actress and not a video vixen. And the doc talks about how if transgender people were caught in drag they could be arrested and that was before Stonewall in 1969. But I didnt I just laughed at her from behind my book. It made me wonder if this girl was not really paying any attention while this doc was on or if shes someone who is easily confused? Then I stopped wondering when I got off the train cause I got a free donut from Entenmanns for National Donut Day. That was rad!
