Owaka travelled to Tapanui to take on Blueys. Winning the toss, Blueys took the willow and put Owaka to the sword early on. Mike Stuart scoring a match high 72 ably assisted by Lachie Johnston (31) and Chris Waide (19). Owaka managed to stem the flow through the middle of the innings thanks to Dwayne McCullums 6-43. Blueys were bowled out for 174 in the 35th over. Owaka struggled to score runs at the top of the order and had lost 3 wickets before making double figures. Francis Parker steadied the ship for Owaka through the middle with an less than orthodox 48. Owaka kept losing wickets and a tail end flurry from man on debut Clay Taylor (23) made the end score of 101 somewhere near respectable. Jordan Anderson picked up 3-8 for Blueys, Lachie Johnston 2-20 showing some great all round skill. Player of the day points :- Mike Stuart - 3pts Dwayne McCullum - 2pts Lachie Johnston 1pt. Plenty of positives for both sides to ponder over. Something tells me this competition is going to be a tight one..
