Owerri Archdiocese Replies Mbaka: No Dud Cheque Was Issued The Catholic Archdiocese of Owerri has reacted to the claims allegedly made by Rev. Fr. Ejike Mbaka of Adoration ministry Enugu that governor Rochas Okorocha of Imo state had allegedly issued a N50m bounced cheque to the Owerri Catholic Archdiceose. According to a statement by issued by the director of communications, Catholic Archdiocese of Owerri, Rev. Fr. George Nwachukwu as obtained by THE LEADER newspaper, the Owerri Archdiocese regret the statement and consider the apparent controversy as unfortunate The Owerri Archdiocese spokesman noted that Fr. Mbaka has no right to interfere into the affairs of Owerri Catholic Archdiocese as he is not the spokeman of the Church in Owerri. Fr. Mbaka is not a priest of the Catholic Archdiocese of Owerri and has no right to wade into this strict Archdiocesean affair. Moreso, he is not the Vicar-general, the Secretary or the Chancellor nor the spokesman of the Archdiocese. It would be recalled that Fr. Mbaka was qouted penultimate sunday ago as saying that could you imagine that our cathedral in Owerri is almost collapsing and what this man (Rochas) could do was to give the church a N50 million bounced cheque? As I am speaking now, Rochas is dealing with the people. Infact, that man is not a blessing to Ndi Imo and I wonder the kingdom where he came from.. The government of Imo state has however, through the senior special assistant to the governor on media debunked the Fr. Mbaka aleged claims as false and unholy blackmail to the governor. All attention now shifts to Rev. Fr. Ejike Mbaka to react to the denials of Owerri Catholic Archdiocese and the outright condemnation from Imo state government on the allegations of issuing a dud cheque to the Church.
