Own your mythology. I often hear, Republicans are for the rich or The republican party is the party of the 1%. To be a millionaire is to be the 1%, and to most Americans that means to continually crush the little guy and to vote as right-wing as possible. But the numbers just dont add up. Of the 535 members of Congress, 269 (about half) are millionaires. And of those millionaires, most are Democrats. From Wall Street, over 75 percent of donations are to the Democrat Party and its candidates, and have been since 1989. If you look at the top 1% income earners in the United States, their donations to the democrat candidates was 1.15 billion in the last 20 years, vs. 736 million given to the GOP. In the top 10 donors in the country, Democrats gave 2 - 1 to political fundraising for candidates, while Republican or Libertarian candidates gave more to outside charities by almost 3 to 1. This concept that the Right keeps throwing money into politics while the Leftists mostly give to charitable causes is not just false... Its absolutely inverted from the truth. And despite being easily researchable, this is the most widely purported political myth of the day. The truth in the numbers: Democrats are the party of the 1% and funded by the super rich and Wall Street, while Republicans have about half as much support as their Democratic opposition. Mitt Romneys massive wealth was constantly used as a strike against him in campaigns. But whats the truth? His net worth is less than a third of Democratic candidate John Kerry. Mitt Romney is worth only a little more than Al Gore, who is now worth 200 million dollars (and who also put tons of money into Fracking.) And George W. Bush, the guy who apparently went to war for money, is worth less than famed Democrat Hillary Clinton, who is worth over 20 million (and also demonizes the wealthy, while claiming she is not rich.) Stop spreading falsehoods, please. Democrats in political power are far, far wealthier than Republicans in political offices. And its about damn time my friends, regardless of their political affiliation, realize this and stop spreading misinformation.
