Oyo embarks on `Operation fill potholes’ The Oyo State Government is set to embark on mass rehabilitation and reconstruction of roads in all the 33 local government areas of the state. Towards facilitating the programme code named ``Operation Fill Potholes’’, the state governor, Senator Abiola Ajimobi, has approved the procurement of about 66 graders for the rehabilitation of damaged roads across the state. This was disclosed by the governor on Thursday shortly after being conferred with the award of exemplary leadership by the state chapter of the National Council of Women’s Society (NCWS) held at the House of Chiefs, Secretariat, Ibadan. The NCWS seized the forum to publicly endorse Governor Ajimobi for the 2015 governorship election. The governor, at the occasion, charged women in the state to redouble their efforts in championing the cause of the enthronement of good governance, with a view to preventing potential non-performing leaders from getting opportunity to steer the ship of the state. Governor Ajimobi assured that his administration would not relent in its efforts at making life worth living for the people, including women, stressing that no government in the sate had protected the interest of women more than his administration. In her remarks the President of the society,, Princess Victoria Adetona, commended the Ajimobi-led administration for its gender-sensitive policy which she said had impacted positively on the lives of women as they have been given the opportunity to contribute immensely to the development of the state. She said the present administration in the state has the highest number of women in its cabinet, adding that the government had assisted women traders with interest-free loans to boost their trading activities more than any administration in the history of the state. In her contribution, the state commissioner for women affairs, Mrs. Atinuke Osunkoya,, solicited the continued support of women for the Ajimobi administration in the efforts to take the state to greater height.
