Oyo speaker orders caretaker chairmen to submit account of stewardship. THE Speaker, Oyo State House of Assembly, Honourable Monsurat Sunmonu, on Thursday, directed all the 33 chairmen of caretaker transition committees in all the local government areas of the state to submit their account of stewardship to the office of the Permanent Secretary/Clerk of the House, latest next week Wednesday, The speaker gave the directive during the House plenary session, on Thursday. According to the speaker, the directive is to assist the House Committee Chairmen in the Local Government area that has been given two weeks to submit its report to the House. The House, which had earlier approved six months tenure for the caretaker chairmen, however, in an emergency sitting on Wednesday, passed for the second reading, a bill for a law to further amend the Local Government System Law 2012 of Oyo State. At the special plenary presided also by the Speaker, she claimed that the amendment became imperative to further promote administrative efficiency in the local government areas of the state. During the session, Honourable Michael Adeyemo of Ibarapa East State Constituency, said the House is aware of the fact that the six months tenure granted to local government administrators need to be reviewed to three months. According to him, “the new amendment would revert the tenure to three months with a view to ensuring effectiveness and prudent management in the local government administration in the state.” Meanwhile, other highlights of Thursday’s proceedings, included the passage into law, the Axminster action of Estates (small estate), Application (Amendment) Bill, 2014. While submitting his report before the House, the Chairman, House Committee on Public Petitions and Judiciary, Honourable Adegoke Azeez, informed that the committee had considered the bill clause by clause and considered that it needed to be passed into law. In a related development, the House in consideration of a report of the committee on Lands, Housing and Survey that considered a bill on Oyo State Estate, Rent and Commission Agents Operation Regulatory Bill, 2013 presented by Hon Wahab Oladejo, the House directed the Committee on Lands, Housing and Survey and Public Petitions and Judiciary to scrutinise the report and consider other stakeholders Interest before it is represented to the House.The House had earlier passed the second reading of the Ministry of Women Affairs Bill, 2014 which was and bill for a law for the establishment of the Ministry of Women Affairs, Community Development, Social Welfare and Poverty Alleviation as a corporate sole and to provide for the functions of the Ministry and other Matters connected therewith.
