PACES EXAM STRATEGY Hii Dear doctor Preparation for MRCP - TopicsExpress

PACES EXAM STRATEGY Hii Dear doctor Preparation for MRCP PACES is simple. It is just an exam like any exam ... just needs preparation and understanding. No need to read extensively for PACES. MRCP teaches more than it tests during examination. When you come out of the exam you realize that, after months & months of hard work & sweating, the amount of knowledge you actually used during exam could be written on a postage stamp. Start seeing cases at the earliest & present it to your colleagues.See the deficiencies while you present the case & rectify it. PRACTICE, PRACTICE & PRACTICE It’s a performance based examination. I mean showmanship examination. Convince examiner that you are seeing cases regularly, you are examining cases regularly & you are capable of solving medical issues/ethical issues related to your patient with sympathy & empathy. But you have to work hard to gain knowledge, develop confidence to present things during exam in short period under stress. Patient concern is a very very important aspect in MRCP PACES as is in your day to day practice. Regarding Study materials online study, books will only aid your preparation. You can subscribe Past test video series that covers clinical cases, communication scenarios & and also history sections. Read an aid to MRCP PACES by RYDER 3 volumes or OST clinical medicine series (2volumes) whichever you like but not both together. You have to go through NICE GUIDELINES, & DVLA regulations in UK. Other books of interest are Oxford Handbook of clinical medicine, Baliga 250 cases, cases for paces, success for paces. But I would recommend, Apart from RYDER OR OST clinical medicine series you select 1 or 2 small books given above for revision purpose. You have to make an action plan covering all cases, communication scenarios, & history stations. An action plan is already posted in MRCP (UK) PACES preparation forum; you can follow that action plan. It will help you to prepare for exam in a systematic manner. It’s better to make a small study group under guidance of an experienced MRCP doctor & start practicing cases, Communication scenarios & history stations. My advice is PRACTICE PRACTICE & PRACTICE that make you perfect for examination & for your professional career. Best of luck. Regards. Dr Shuhaib kunjhibava. MBBS, MD (Internal medicine), MRCP (UK).
