PACIFIC ISLANDS WOMEN IN LEADERSHIP PROGRAM FELLOWSHIP Aloha Friends, The East-West Center is pleased to announce that applications are now being accepted for the second cohort of the Pacific Islands Women in Leadership Program (WIL). Up to 12 participants will be selected for the program, which will take place at the East-West Center in Honolulu from October 6 - 25, 2014. The Pacific Islands Women in Leadership program (WIL) is designed to create a vibrant network of women leaders across the Pacific region who will learn from each other and provide mutual support as they seek to bring about positive changes in their island societies. The program has two main outcomes: The development of a network of women leaders working on Pacific womens empowerment issues and connected to supportive institutions, and the development of applied leadership projects designed within and for specific communities. The overall objective is to affect positive regional change on gender issues through empowered women leaders. This program is intended for early- to mid-career professionals with at least 5 years work experience and a desire to affect positive regional change on gender issues. Applicants from all walks of life are encouraged to apply (government, business, environment, NGOs, health, media, agriculture, education and others). Applicants should apply with either an existing or future womens empowerment project in mind, and will be expected to have a fluent level of English. To be considered for the program, candidates should submit the following to the East-West Center by May 9, 2014: A completed 2014 WIL application form; two 2014 WIL Letter of Reference forms; a CV and cover letter with a brief description of a project you would like to create or further develop which will serve to empower women in your community. Citizens of the Cook Islands, Federated States of Micronesia, Fiji, Kiribati, Marshall Islands, Nauru, Niue, Palau, Papua New Guinea, Samoa, Solomon Islands, Tonga, Tuvalu, and Vanuatu are eligible to apply. Participants will receive a fellowship which provides for program fees and course materials, residence hall room costs, health insurance, a living stipend, round-trip airfare to Honolulu, and SEVIS fees (if required). Through the program, participants will also receive extensive project development training and mentorship, follow-up support after the on-campus portion of the program, and selected projects will receive small seed grants for implementation.
