PAIN IS LIKE AN OPINION OR A CONCERN - SUBJECTIVE (INTANGIBLE) HOW WE RESPOND IS/CAN BE OBJECTIVE (TANGIBLE) If there is anything I learned about a Complain Free World is not just about how not to complain (thats something that I will try to be aware of but will never be perfect at) but rather how I respond to negativity. When our new mayor took office this is something I was not good at, mostly because it was uncharted territory for me. I had meltdowns, I cried, I screamed to the world most chances I could. When someone not only attacks the credibility of someone you love but their character too, its natural. And while the mayor continues the attempted assassination with horrible mis-truths, half-truths, and downright lies to try to build his own credibility instead of creating his own, I focused on the section of the book about how to respond to negativity. If people have noticed, Ive taken it seriously. I discovered the best way to deal with someone who does not jibe with your beliefs, who attacks you, wants to argue, or does not have your best interest at heart is to DISENGAGE. This renders the person powerless and irrelevant. Ive applied this to our mayor in the matters of his personal and political attacks, and it works - on my end. It has not stopped him, but I feel powerFUL by not responding and I feel this makes him powerLESS. Now I will tell you that doesnt mean I wont have a public meltdown again, Im human. It must be exhausting for the mayor to consciously live in such negativity, and for that I actually feel sorry for him. The book and the mayor himself has taught me to stop living that way myself. I will not give up uncovering the truth, or telling my truth, and some things ARE worth the fight. But I will try my best to push the draining negativity back and live as the happy-go-lucky person Ive always been. I will say the mayor has taught me some life lessons, and the Complaint Free World couldnt have come at a more important time for me.
