PAKISTAN, THAI ENVOYS PRESENT CREDENTIALS Photos by Thompson Keobaletswe for BOPA Yesterday afternoon the incoming envoys from the Islamic Republic of Pakistan, H.E. High Commissioner Najm US Saqib, and the Kingdom of Thailand, H.E. Ambassador Voradet Viravakin, presented their credentials, letters of credence, to H.E. the President, Lt. Gen. Seretse Khama Ian Khama. In a subsequent interview, High Commissioner Najm US Saqib said that his Pakistan and Botswana were working towards the establishment of a joint commission for improved bilateral cooperation. He said experts and government officials from the two countries would identify areas which the two countries could advance their common interests. He said the forum that will be established soon and that “the packages will also be discussed at that forum.” High Commissioner Saqib further said that the two countries already enjoyed excellent bilateral ties and at a political level worked together at multi-lateral forums such as the United Nations and the Commonwealth. On his discussions with President Khama, he said they conferred on how Pakistan and Botswana could increase their economic trade for mutual benefit. He further said his country had a wealth of expertise in Information Technology, Science and Mathematics. For his part, Ambassador Voradet Viravakin said Thailand imported a lot of raw materials from Botswana and that the two countries will strengthen their cooperation in technical assistance. He said Thailand’s International Cooperation Agency was currently extending scholarships to Batswana interested in studying in Thailand. Prior to meeting with President Khama, the two envoys met with the Minister of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation, the Hon. Phandu Skelemani, where they discussed in depth their interests in areas of cooperation.
