PAKISTANIS in Bahrain yesterday celebrated their countrys Independence Day with a host of events. Scores of people attended a flag-hoisting ceremony at the Pakistan Embassy in the Diplomatic Area. Pakistani Ambassador-designate Muhammad Saeed Khan, who raised his countrys national flag, addressed more than 150 community members, including businessmen, scholars and Pakistan Navy officers. Mr Khan stressed unity amongst Pakistanis in Bahrain and urged them to follow local laws as well as respect Bahrains traditions and culture. Messages from President Mamnoon Hussain and Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif were also read out. It also featured national and patriotic songs, followed by cultural programmes. Guests were served traditional snacks and drinks. A flag-hoisting ceremony was also held at the Pakistan Club in Manama. It was attended by members, their guests and community leaders. The evening programmes featured Quran recitation, national anthem and Azadi (independence) Cup cricket match final and prize distribution. Chief guest was head of chancery Muhammad Ahad, who spoke at the event, followed by club chairman Zahid Shaikh. It also featured a cake-cutting ceremony followed by Zain Ramadan cricket tournament and prize distribution.
