POLICE COLLEGE STUDENTS ASSIST UCCSA Botswana Police College students and their lecturers have built strong bonds and friendship through cooperation and mutual respect with the UCCSA Church in Ntlhantlhe village in the Southern District. The friendship came through a 10 km sponsored walk over the weekend where they raised over P4,000. The funds are raised to construct the local pastor’s house in the village. The chief walker, the college principal Mr Goboletswe Dimeku, said “blessed is the hand that gives.” Mr Dimeku said they had long been willing to work jointly with members of the community, adding that they contributed the money from their pockets after an appeal by the church. The theme was ‘Jeso o a re bitsa go tsaya karolo mo matshwenyegong a setshaba le ikgaratlhelo’ (Jesus is calling us to participate in community struggles). Mr Dimeku said they would keep the newfound friendship forever. Church member Ms Onalenna Senna thanked the police for the compassion they showed to them when they sought assistance. She said they wanted to build a house for their pastor, adding that pastors at UCCSA worked more like public servants; they were transferred after every five years. She said they had been experiencing problems when the pastor was transferred to their area (Moeding region) since they had to rent houses in the village, a costly affair, she said. (BOPA)
