LITURGY TEAM MEETING ON WEDNESDAY, FEBRUARY 5TH There will be a Liturgy Team Meeting on Wednesday, February 5, 2014 at 6:30 pm in the Saints Peter and Paul Parish Rectory. 2. YOUTH TEAM MEETING ON THURSDAY, FEBRUARY 6TH There will be a Youth Team Meeting on Thursday, February 6, 2014 at 7:30 pm in the Saints Peter and Paul Parish Rectory. 3. LECTIO DIVINA ON SATURDAYS: PRAYING WITH THE WORD OF GOD Every Saturday at 10:30 AM in the Rectory (71 South 3rd Street) there is a “Lectio Divina” in English. It is a way to pray and reflect on the Word of God. It is an amazing time for sharing and fraternity. The Lectio Divina is based on the following Sunday’s readings. All who are interested should come. 4. LEGAL SERVICES ON SATURDAYS IN THE RECTORY (FREE CONSULTATION!) Two Saturdays every month from 11:00 AM to 1:00 PM in the Rectory, Attorney Mercedes Guzmán, an NYC lawyer, will offer her legal services for all interested parishioners. She will focus primarily on immigration and family matters, but she can also help with any other legal issue. A suggested donation may be required at the completion of some cases. Attorney Guzmán speaks English and Spanish. NEXT LAWYER VISITS: February 8th and 22nd 5. SOUP KITCHEN ON MONDAYS AND FRIDAYS AT EPIPHANY Every Monday and Friday, from 12:00 p.m. to 2:00 p.m. we will offer a hot meal to people in need. The Legion of Mary will be in charge of this activity. Every parishioner is invited to bring food donations to our two churches or to our rectory. “For I was hungry and you gave me food” (Mt 25, 35). ON THIS FOURTH WEEK IN ORDINARY TIME THE CHURCH CELEBRATES: Monday, February 3rd: Saint Blaise, Martyr (4th Cent): Saint Blaise was the bishop of Sebaste in Armenia. He is associated with the healing of throats and is also venerated in the Eastern Church. Saint Ansgar, Patron of Denmark, Germany and Iceland (865): Saint Ansgar was a missionary to Denmark and Sweden. He was bishop of Hamburg, a great preacher and administrator and is known as the “Apostle of the North.” Wednesday, February 5th: Saint Agatha, Patroness of Palermo and Catania (251): Saint Agatha is invoked for protection against volcanic eruptions and fires and is mentioned in the Roman Canon. Thursday, February 6th: Saint Paul Miki and Companions, Martyrs (1597): Saint Paul Miki and his twenty-five companions including two Jesuits, six Franciscans, fifteen tertiaries and two laymen were crucified by order of the ruler Hideyoshi at Nagasaki on February 5, 1597. Saturday, February 8th: Saint Jerome Emiliani, Patron of Orphans and Abandoned Children (1537): Saint Jerome was a Venetian soldier whose conversion led to the founding of the Clerks Regular of Somascha. He dedicated his life to the poor and the education of the youth. Saint Josephine Bakhita, Religious (1947): Saint Josephine was born around 1869 and raised in Islamic faith. She was kidnapped around the age of seven by slave traders who gave her the name, “Bakhita,” meaning “lucky one.” She was sold to a number of owners until she was purchased at about the age of twelve by the Italian Consul Callisto Legnani. He brought her to Italy and while serving as a nanny, was sent to live with the Canossian Sisters in Venice. There she was formally introduced to the faith, baptized, and eventually granted her freedom. In 1896, she joined the Canossian Daughters of Charity and for 25 years served her sisters as cook, seamstress and portress of their houses in Venice, Verona, and Schio. She was loved by her students for her sweet nature and musical voice.
