PARISH TRIVIA It is a matter of record that, at the instance of Fr. Vicente Balaguer, Rizals former Ateneo professor who was then the Dapitan Acting Parish Priest, Rizal painted the famous Holy Week Curtain with the assistance of Francisco Almirol, a Dipolog painter, and Sister Justina Montoya, RVM, a native of Cavite, who was then residing at the Nuns Convent in Dapitan. The Curtain was used to cover the Sanctuary during Maundy Thursday and Good Friday until 1937 when the Dapitan Parish Priest, Fr. Jose Buxo, SJ, sent it to his superiors in Manila where it was allegedly lost during the last World War.
