PART 2 – Prophecies Concerning the Birth of Jesus. 5. Jesus’ mother will be a virgin. Prophecy: Isaiah 7:14 14 Therefore the Lord Himself will give you a sign: Behold, a virgin will be with child and bear a son, and she will call His name Immanuel. Fulfilled: Matthew 1:23-25 23 “BEHOLD, THE VIRGIN SHALL BE WITH CHILD AND SHALL BEAR A SON, AND THEY SHALL CALL HIS NAME IMMANUEL,” which translated means, “GOD WITH US.” 24 And Joseph awoke from his sleep and did as the angel of the Lord commanded him, and took Mary as his wife, 25 but kept her a virgin until she gave birth to a Son; and he called His name Jesus. 6. The Messiah will come from Bethlehem Prophecy: Micah 5:2 2 “But as for you, Bethlehem Ephrathah, Too little to be among the clans of Judah, From you One will go forth for Me to be ruler in Israel. His goings forth are from long ago, From the days of eternity.” Fulfilled: Matthew 2:1 2 Now after Jesus was born in Bethlehem of Judea in the days of Herod the king, magi from the east arrived in Jerusalem. Luke 2:4-7 4 Joseph also went up from Galilee, from the city of Nazareth, to Judea, to the city of David which is called Bethlehem, because he was of the house and family of David, 5 in order to register along with Mary, who was engaged to him, and was with child. 6 While they were there, the days were completed for her to give birth. 7 And she gave birth to her firstborn son; and she wrapped Him in cloths, and laid Him in a manger, because there was no room for them in the inn. Bethlehem is a small town, but an important place for God’s people. -1. Jacob buried his wife Rachel there – Genesis 35:19. -2. Ibzan, a judge of Israel, was from Bethlehem. -3. Boaz who married Ruth and King David were from there. -4. Along the hillsides almonds, olives and grape vines grow. The shepherds’ fields are located northeast of the town even today. -5. So thankful for this town where Jesus was born. 7. Worshipped by Kings and Wise Men Prophecy: Ps 72:10-11 10 Let the kings of Tarshish and of the islands bring presents; The kings of Sheba and Seba offer gifts. 11 And let all kings bow down before him, All nations serve him. Fulfilled: Matthew 2:10-11 10 When they saw the star, they rejoiced exceedingly with great joy. 11 After coming into the house they saw the Child with Mary His mother; and they fell to the ground and worshiped Him. Then, opening their treasures, they presented to Him gifts of gold, frankincense, and myrrh. 8.Jesus will be called out of Egypt. Prophecy: Hosea 11:1 God Yearns over His People 1 When Israel was a youth I loved him, And out of Egypt I called My son. Fulfilled: Matthew 2:13–15 The Flight to Egypt 13 Now when they had gone, behold, an angel of the Lord appeared to Joseph in a dream and said, “Get up! Take the Child and His mother and flee to Egypt, and remain there until I tell you; for Herod is going to search for the Child to destroy Him.” 14 So Joseph got up and took the Child and His mother while it was still night, and left for Egypt. 15 He remained there until the death of Herod. This was to fulfill what had been spoken by the Lord through the prophet: “Out of Egypt I called My Son.”
