PART II: HABAKKUK’S TRUST and FAITH A WILLINGNESS TO WAIT One of the marks of faith is a willingness to wait patiently for the Lord to work as did Habakkuk. Whoever believes will not act hastily (Isa. 28:16, NKJV). When we run ahead of God, we get into trouble. Abraham learned that lesson when he married Hagar and fathered Ishmael (Gen. 16). In quietness and confidence shall be your strength (Isa. 3:15). STAND STILL, SIT STILL, and BE STILL Over my years of following Jesus, Ive often leaned on three verses that have helped me wait patiently on the Lord. Stand still Exodus 14:13 (NIV) 13 Moses answered the people, Do not be afraid. Stand firm and you will see the deliverance the LORD will bring you today. The Egyptians you see today you will never see again. Sit still Ruth 3:18 (NIV) 18 Then Naomi said, Wait, my daughter, until you find out what happens. For the man will not rest until the matter is settled today. Be still Psalms 46:10 (NIV) 10 Be still, and know that I am God; I will be exalted among the nations, I will be exalted in the earth. Whenever we find ourselves getting worked up within, we can be sure that we need to stop, pray, and wait on the Lord before we do some stupid thing. SING, PRAISE, WORSHIP As Habakkuk sang, so shall we. Exodus 15:2 (NIV) 2 The LORD is my strength and my song; he has become my salvation. He is my God, and I will praise him, my fathers God, and I will exalt him. Psalms 118:14 (NIV) 14 The LORD is my strength and my song; he has become my salvation. God made us for the heights. If He allows us to go into the valley, its so we might wait on Him and mount up with eagles wings. Isaiah 40:30-31 (NIV) 30 Even youths grow tired and weary, and young men stumble and fall; 31 but those who hope in the LORD will renew their strength. They will soar on wings like eagles; they will run and not grow weary, they will walk and not be faint. He made him to ride on the high places of the earth (Deut. 32:13). This is what David experienced when he was being chased by his enemies and by Saul: It is God who arms me with strength, and makes my way perfect. He makes my feet like the feet of deer, and sets me on my high places (Ps. 18:32-33). We all have been in the valley, we all have been on the high places. Both are life! Let’s all remember that happiness depends on circumstances. Joy depends on FAITH and TRUST in our Triune God. Praise God the Father, The Son and The Holy Spirit!
