PASTORS PAUSE.... CONNECTED or DISCONNECTED…The Book of Job in - TopicsExpress

PASTORS PAUSE.... CONNECTED or DISCONNECTED…The Book of Job in the Old Testament tells of a man who was connected to his Maker in ways that some of us can only imagine. He was “honest, a person of absolute integrity” (1:1b CEB) who was minding his own business when God pointed him out to “the Adversary” (1:6 CEB). He was connected! In this world in which we now live where we connect to another person in the blink of an eye, it never ceasing to amaze me how we have become so disconnected. As I watched the Oscars the other night, I, like the rest of the world, had my remote in one hand and my Smartphone in the other. People around the world were using their social media so much that it temporarily shut one of them down. That gave me pause. What might happen if all of us who were glued to our devices for a straight 3 ½ hours were to connect to our Creator, Redeemer, Sustainer concerning all of the disorder around the world for just a fraction of that time? Might our Maker hear and answer our connection? Might we cease being disconnected? Might the world become a better place? As I learn more and more about others, I realize they are indeed my neighbors and my fear of them subsides. I know that they love themselves; they love their land; they love life. When one fights another or is in a constant tug-of-war with another, there is no listening to the other’s side. When one side must always be right, the other side then must always be wrong. When one believes that her/his agenda outweighs another, there is no communication and no connectedness. Even if one believes in The Big Bang Theory, humankind came into being by being connected. We are ultimately human beings with reasoning power. Must that power always end in chaos, confusion and misunderstanding? The story of Job ends on a positive note with his Maker reminding him that he must continuously remain connected no matter the circumstances; for, the reward is HUGE. When we do, we find ways to become connected and disregard our disconnectedness. I do not know about you, but I learned far more about myself as I reflected on those lost hours this past Sunday night. I learned that I always want to stay connected to my God no matter the circumstances. I implore everyone to become spiritually connected, and watch positive change happen…in the Name of the Father, and of the Son, and of the Holy Spirit… ~Rev. Lynda L. Mayberry
