Entry level finance position responsible for registering patients and verifying insurance information in a timely, courteous and accurate fashion. Provides patients with efficient and pleasant encounter when checking in and/or scheduling appointments for services. Accurately and efficiently verifies demographic and insurance information to ensure claim authorization, and completes all related computer input/paperwork. Meets/exceeds registration and insurance accuracy standards. Explains and/or collects co-pays, cost shares and any other applicable fees. Refers patients to the Financial Counselor as appropriate. Transports patient to appropriate locations whenever necessary to avoid delays in patient care. Answers telephone inquiries in a courteous and efficient manner. Maintains in-depth knowledge of insurance programs, rules, regulations and guidelines (i.e. Medicare, Medicaid, etc.). Maintains knowledge of PAS and hospital policies and procedures ensuring maximum utilization of facilities and staffing. Escalates potential patient and/or scheduling issues as needed. Maintains work area (desks and equipment) and ensures departmental supplies are appropriately ordered and stocked. Regularly participates in informal and formal education, staff meetings or staff development activities. Performs weekend, holiday and on-call rotation. Position Requirements: Minimum 1 year of clerical or customer service experience required. Direct experience in patient registration, scheduling, insurance office or related medical field preferred. Basic knowledge of third party payor and managed care insurance requirements preferred. Medical terminology and ICD-9 CM coding knowledge preferred. Must be detail-oriented and organized with good analytical and problem solving ability. Excellent client service, communication, presentation and relationship building skills required. Ability to multi-task as well as function independently in a fast-paced and sometimes stressful work environment required. Ability to exercise independent judgment and maintain confidentiality required. Demonstrated ability to use PCs, Microsoft Office suite, and general office equipment (i.e. printers, copy machine, FAX machine, etc.) required. Experience with the hospital ADT, IDXRAD/Imagecast and/or Soarian preferred. Education Requirements: High School diploma or GED required. Associate?s degree preferred. Medical terminology a plus. License Requirements: CHAA - (National Association of Healthcare Access) preferred.
