PAULATUK HUNTERS & TRAPPERS COMMITTEE Employment Opportunity 2013 The PHTC, in conjunction with DFO and FJMC, we are now accepting applications for 1 CRAB/SHRIMP sample collector. Conditions and scope of work are set below; Knowledge and experience of traveling the routes on rough waters is a must and always be prepared to travel to different areas to deploy the nets You must have an Outboard Motor and Boat, if you will rent one, a signed document from the owner must be submitted to the PHTC confirming that you have one in line for the duration of the program You must take one day to submit a final report and all PHTC/DFO/FJMC equipment must be returned prior to receiving your final payment SCOPE OF WORK: • Deploy 2 shrimp nets and 2 crab nets at various locations to the Eastern side of. The nets will need to be set for 24 hours before retrieval and bated with cat food or fish scraps • Dates, location and depth of net deployed must be recorded in note book, even when nets are empty, recording all information is important. • Photos must be taken of the bulk catch and individual species, even if nets are empty. • The Individual will collect samples, record number of organisms, number of different species (note book) along with the supporting photos. Only 2 samples per species are required for further analyses and identification This project will feed into our ecosystem approach to studying Darnley Bay and the Beaufort Sea Nearshore ecosystem and partnering it with the offshore ecosystem research (BREA trawler).
