PAULINE SOLD OUT EVERY SHOW BUT... THANKS TO OUR FRIENDS... at the Edith Lando Foundation, and at the SFU Vancity Office of Community Engagement, we were able to give tickets to 75 young aboriginals otherwise unable to attend PAULINE. Many of these 75 have written letters. Below, a couple you might especially enjoy. “A few weeks ago, I had the pleasure of being able to see Pauline, the opera, thanks to you! This was my first time seeing an opera, and although I was hesitant going in, I was pleasantly surprised. The opera was so beautiful, and it was truly wonderful seeing the legendary Pauline Johnson come to life. Although I had hoped for a cast more rich with Aboriginal people, and more of her stage performance as Tekahionwake, I still very much enjoyed it. My favourite part was when all the papers fell down from the ceiling as Pauline cried out a loud passionate verse. It gave me goose bumps. I would again like to thank you for giving us the opportunity to see this opera. I’ll never forget it!” ********************************** “I want to thank you for the great opportunity you gave me to attend the opera called Pauline. I have never been to an opera before, but this was truly amazing to see. The actress that played Pauline Johnson, Rose-Ellen Nichols, was amazing. Her voice was so powerful in the show. I learned so much about just watching the show. Pauline is a true legend for the Métis people. Through my education at the Native Education College, I have read and seen a lot of Pauline’s work. Watching what they went through was powerful. I am truly thankful for this opportunity. Thank you from the bottom of my heart for the great opportunity of watching my first opera.” ********************************** “I am a 33 year-old single mother and a student at Native Education College. I was one of the students that was given the opportunity to go to the opera featuring Pauline Johnson’s life. I loved how the stage was set up. I always thought going to the opera would be boring, but it wasn’t at all. I loved being there to witness a great woman being proud of who she was and who stood proud. The lady who played Pauline’s part, Rose-Ellen Nichols, had an amazing strong voice and she was very beautiful. Thank you for this opportunity.”
