PCI,COMMUNITY DEVELOPMENT DEPT SIGN MoU The Department of Community Development and Project Concern International signed an agreement that will enable vulnerable groups and increase access to early childhood education by disadvantaged children from remote area communities. The agreement, signed by the Director of Community Development, Mr Steven Ludick and Country Director of Project Concern International, Ms Dorothy Tlagae, also seeks to share information on new technological and evidence-based initiatives that can enhance early childhood education. Mr Ludick said with the support of Project Concern International, government trained 22 teachers from remote area dweller settlements in Kgalagadi, Ghanzi and Kweneng districts on early childhood education. The two-week training was in June this year. He described the partnership with Project Concern International as important because his department considered early childhood education a priority and a major investment in the future of Botswana. He said early childhood development should form a major part of the development agenda of any country because children who were appropriately stimulated at a tender age tended to do well at school and became successful in life. And, Ms Tlagae said with funding from the United States Agency for International Development and other forms of support from the US President’s Emergency Plan for AIDS Relief and Botswana government, Project Concern International seeks to improve the quality of life and self-sufficiency of vulnerable families. In turn, she said, Project Concern International provided its community-based NGO partners with resources and skills to serve as a bridge between government services and households. Ms Tlagae said her organisation was implementing a programme on orphans and vulnerable children as well as gender. By so doing, Project Concern International was helping the government in its priority areas. ENDS Source : BOPA
