PDP ENDORSES JONATHAN AS PRESIDENTIAL CANDIDATE Party Effectively Shuts Out Other Contenders In Dec 6 Primaries --Attorney Patryk Utulu Ruling PDP National Executive Committee (NEC) yesterday adopted President Goodluck Jonathan as the partys sole presidential candidate for Elections 2015, thus effectively shutting out any other contenders. Jonathans sole challenger, Jigawa State Governor Sule Lamido, agreed to abandon his nomination quest. PDPs Governors’ Forum and Board of Trustees had held separate meetings earlier and similarly endorsed Mr. Jonathan as the only presidential candidate. Niger State Governor Mu’azu Babangida Aliyu announced that PDP governors had “unanimously without any reservation decided to endorse the sole candidature of President Goodluck Jonathan in the 2015 election.” Governor Lamido publicly acknowledged that Mr. Jonathan is the partys sole candidate. This was necessary as Gov. Sule Lamido had previously challenged Jonathan. Speaking for PDP board of trustees Chief Shuaibu Oyedokun explained that in taking the decision BOT members sought to consolidate on the advantage of an incumbent president and adopted Jonathan as sole candidate of the party. Senate President David Mark said the National Assembly was keen on continuity. PDPs former national chairman Dr Bello Halliru Mohammed moved the motion to adopt Jonathan. Anambra States former governor Jim Nwobodo Nwobodo seconded it. President Jonathan ACCEPTED THE ENDORSEMENT. He pronounced himself humbled by the endorsement and thanked the party faithfuls and decision makers for their faith in him. He promised to lead the party to victory in 2015.
