PDP govt most corrupt in Kashmir history: Kamal SRINAGAR — National Conference Saturday said the three year rule of Mufti Sayeed as the Chief Minister of the State was the most corrupt tenure of a government in the States history.PDP did little besides allowing its ministers to loot public wealth and resources - a fact that was reflected in how the State Accountability Commission (SAC) had indicted three sitting ministers of PDP government on charges of serious corruption.National Conference Leader Dr Sheikh Mustafa Kamal lashed out at PDP patron for insulting the people of Jammu and Kashmir by presuming that their memory was so short-lived.People of J&K remember quite clearly how Mufti plunged J&K neck-deep into corruption and chaos as the Chief Minister of the State. The State Accountability Commission (SAC), corruption watchdog, found evidence of corruption running into crores against three of Mufti’s ministers. Then there was the Kundal Committee report which indicted Tariq Karra and Qazi Afzal in the infamous Forest Scam, Kamal said.Kamal said Mufti treated mass corruption as his legitimised right and allowed his ministers to engage in record-breaking loot and plunder from 2002 to 2005. After making the SAC defunct during their tenure, PDP then created hurdles in reviving SAC and RTI Commission as they knew that once the SAC is revived, some of their senior-most leaders would land in trouble for their scams. This is the reason why PDP frequently boycotted meetings held for re-constituting SAC and constituting the Right to Information Commission, the NC Leader said.He said Mufti’s patronisation of systemic and organised corruption from 2002 to 2005 resulted in J&K being judged as the most corrupt state in the entire country. As soon as we came to power we started bringing in systemic changes and put in checks and balances to take J&K out of the rot of corruption that PDP had encouraged and patronized. The constitution of the State Vigilance Commission (SVC) by Chief Minister Omar Abdullah and re-constitution of the State Accountability Commission (SAC) in addition to a very strong Right to Information (RTI) Act were solid and hugely successful efforts made in the direction of transparency and weeding out corruption from the system, Kamal said.
