PDP migraine headache worsens - Sylva’s APC Chairmanship Aspiration Unsettles Bayelsa govt | Political leaders in Bayelsa State are now in Abuja to formulate strategies to contain the former governor of the state, Timipre Sylva, in the likelihood that he emerges as the national chairman of the All Progressives Congress. THISDAY gathered that those invited to attend included the former aides of Sylva who abandoned their boss in a mass defection recently. The meeting, which is expected to hold today, would be presided over by Governor Seriake Dickson. Since the news hit the streets that Sylva would contest the chairmanship of the APC, the unexpected move had put the spanners on the calculations of some leading politicians in the state. According to a former aide who was among those who defected back to the ruling Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), the upswing in the political profile of Sylva took almost everyone unaware as the believe, until the turn of event, was that the former governor had gone down the political ladder. The man who pleaded anonymity, said the fears are that Sylva as the chairman of the leading opposition party in the country would be an embarrassment for the state and people given the fact that President Goodluck Jonathan is expected to contest the 2015 presidential election. He also expressed the fear that those attending the meeting might be looking up to them to suggest solution to the “Sylva problem”, hence the invitation to most of them to attend. But contacted, the Special Adviser to Dickson on Political Affairs, Chief Fred Agbedi, insisted that Sylva was not an issue. Although Agbedi would not say if such meeting was taking place, he stressed that neither the PDP nor the state government was losing sleep over Sylva becoming the APC chairman. Contacted, the state chairman of the APC, Chief Tiwei Orunimighe, refused to comment on the issue. Calls and text messages send to him were never replied.
