PDRRMC deploys team for relief operations LINGAYEN--Almost 200 families whose houses were flooded following the onslaught of typhoon Labuyo that hit the province on August 12 received relief assistance from the province through the Provincial Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Council (PDRRMC). Earlier in the morning today, August 13, the PDRRMC, on instruction of Gov. Amado T. Espino, Jr., mobilized its relief operation team to distribute relief packs to the typhoon victims housed in various evacuation centers in the towns of Bugallon, Calasiao and Urdaneta. Col. Fernando De Guzman, officer-in-charge of PDRRMC said that the relief assistance that were distributed to the victims contained assorted goods, rice, and used clothings. As of 11:00am, the PDRRMC also said that 32 barangays in 6 municipalities have reported that palay areas in vegetative stage have been submerged in water due to the rains spawned by Typhoon Labuyo where Pangasinan was put under storm signal number 3 on Monday. Rita Prieto, Rice Report Officer of the Office of the Provincial Agriculturist said that partial reports received by the monitoring team of PDRRMC showed that some 655 hectares of land planted with palay and high value commercial crops in the municipalities of Binalonan, Sison, Umingan, Natividad, Sison and Infanta have submerged in water. However, no damages have been incurred yet as the damage can only be determined when the floodwaters subside, Prieto clarified. Further, the OPAG personnel noted that so far, the continuous rain brought about by Typhoon Labuyo is generally considered beneficial to all stages of crops in all the municipalities and cities in the province. In fishery, Cornelia delos Santos, also a member of the monitoring team said that the municipalities of Agno, Dasol and Infanta yielded a partial report of almost P8-million worth of damage due to overflooding that resulted to loss of stocks. The disaster operation team also rescued a missing fisherman in Bolinao and reported that another missing fisherman in Infanta has returned home on the night of August 12. The search for a drowned person in Barangay Maticmatic in Sta. Barbara is still ongoing. (PIO/Angeline D. Villanueva)
